Introduction
This unit introduces the basic principles associated with exchange of heat by conduction, convection and radiation. Students will get familiarized with heat transfer assessment calculations in several scenarios pertinent to process engineering applications including the design of heat exchangers.
Lecture
2 x 2 Hours Weekly
Science Laboratory
2 x 2 Hours Semester
Workshop
1 x 1 Hours Weekly
Unit Learning Outcomes
- 1 describe and explain principles associated with heat transfer phenomena, GC1, GC3
- 2 apply heat transfer principles to the analysis and design of heat transfer processes and equipment of engineering significance, GC1, GC2, GC3, GC6
- 3 work effectively as part of a team and communicate results through technical reports, GC1, GC3, GC5, GC6
Course Learning Outcomes
- 1 Demonstrate a conceptual understanding of fundamental science, mathematics, data analytics, information science, and computing underpinning the broad field of engineering
- 5 Select and use current and emerging technologies to develop and communicate effective and innovative engineering solutions to complex problems
Assessment Breakdown
Recent Unit Changes & Response to Student Feedback
Students are encouraged to provide feedback through student surveys (such as Insight and the annual Student Experience Survey) and interactions with teaching staff. Listed below are some recent changes to the unit as a result of student feedback. The assessments was reduced to only 3, by removing the heat exchanger Design mini project, Heat exchangers calculations will be covered during the lab sessions and lectures
